i tried to taste as many items as possible, though i seem to have lost my taste for the chocolate fountain...
conversation was hilarious, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable 2 hours, evidence of which should be able to be found on facebook in a few hours when deon uploads the pics...
post-lunch, we took separate cabs, one to the cathay, the other to zara/beetlebug, and after coffee/tea at ya kun, we watched The Brave One...
in the many years since i started watching movies (the very first movie i have a recollection of is Rat Trap in 1997, so that's 11 years already), i don't think i've ever watched a movie that has bored me or made me so upset or made me rate it anything lower than 3 stars...
that's partly 'cos i use reviews as a rule of thumb when deciding to watch movies...
but at this period in Fall, after the hooplah of all the summer movies, The Brave One, along with some other low-budget flicks, occupy this precarious space in the hollywood calendar, the exceptions being Death At A Funeral which i couldn't watch 'cos of bad timings and Lust, Caution being chinese (after Curse Of The Golden Flower i got over my need to immerse myself in the wonderful colours of imperial palaces, and i still believe Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, the only other chinese movie i've ever watched, is the only great movie that china has ever made)
i had huge doubts when i stepped into the theatre, made worse by the fact that there were only about 5 other ppl in the cinema besides us...
and for all the emotional method acting drama overload she brought to Flight Plan, Jodie Foster really made a wrong choice doing this film...
the only thing i liked about her was her hair, which had its own ellen degeneres thing going on through the whole movie...
and terrence howard, who has made a good number of movies this year alone and whom i'm excited to watch in Pride when i get around to it, was the epitome of stereotypical...
the scripting for the movie alone was enough to warrant its 2-star rating, and even then i feel that's being generous...
the guns and blood was gratuitous, the narration while sufficiently cornily pseudo-emo was quite silly, and the beginning/ending were both predictable and unimpressive...
never have i left the theatre willingly twice, which indicates how boring it was...
slightly longer than necessary at 120minutes, the whole movie left me feeling cheated, though not too much so 'cos the price of tickets was strangely cheaper than normal at 6.50 a piece...
han an's antics were more entertaining than the film...
post-movie, we ended up at X-Zone again, which seems to be trend, though this time i really couldn't even find it in me to play a single game...
despite a lack of excitement after the LUNCH, it was an excellent way to spend the first day after the exams, if only 'cos of the company...
worship practice has been moved to tomorrow, so that leaves my saturday morning/afternoon free to catch up on some sleep, something i already plan to do tonight after last night's activities...
just make sure to miss the heart,
John.
