Ever since the excitement of Friday, my time has been spent at home or in town, bored and indulging in the joys of consumerism.
I know that when I begin my last stretch of studying, I will look back on my boredom with longing.
That all came to a halt at about 7 yesterday evening, when I received an MSN IM from Elliot, asking if I would like to go Night Cycling.
To cut out the nitty gritty bits which concern getting bikes and coordinating meeting times for
this completely random, last minute but absolutely brilliant idea for a class outing, I met Nic at his house where I loaned his extra bike, and we cycled over to Macs at East Coast Park to meet Elliot, Gerald, Cheryl, Jim and Mong.
The 2 hours of cycling from slightly before midnight till about 2a.m. were brilliant, and I was reminded of the cycling experience I had in Phuket 2 years ago. This time though, with the paved and cobbled roads of Singapore instead of the tar and unrefined paths of Thailand, it was far easier and the enjoyment of it was not diluted by any fatigue or anything.
We met Melodie back at Macs for some supper, then began a slow cycle back to Nic's place, me mostly taking up the rear chatting with Mel.
Back at the house, the order of the night was chat in between people taking turns to shower, Crash Team Racing and Marvel Vs. Capcom on the PS, and finally the guys/gals splitting up to catch some shuteye around 4:30.
Expectedly, I couldn't sleep easily, and it seems neither could many of the others, and at about 7, we all got up and some of us left the room to escape the cold for a while, returning shortly for a second attempt at sleep, this time more successful, and we woke up at 9 permanently, taking the next 2 odd hours to shake off the cobwebs of sleepiness over the internet, PS and National Geographic.
I found out from Cheryl while cycling that those of us who were cycling plus Chun Wui were going to Wakeboard this afternoon, but because a) I'm quite averse to water sports, especially since I wear specs without which I am more or less incapacitated, and b) I had made lunch plans, I took a lift from Jim who also wasn't going Wakeboarding, and subsequently met Javier, Sean and Deon at Sun With Moon, Wheelock Place. A short jaunt to Takashimaya led to our regular stop at Starbucks at the Park Hotel, and we chatted over drinks till 4, whence we parted and I am here recounting my rather exciting last 20 hours.
